Our Story

From breakthrough to global impact

What started as four scientists with a shared vision has evolved into a global force in genomic medicine. Our founders - Professors Peter Donnelly and Gil McVean, Dr Gerton Lunter and Dr Chris Spencer – began this journey in a single office above an Oxford pharmacy. A decade later, we're 150+ strong across the UK and US, with a world-class scientific team boasting over 60 PhDs and the world’s strongest team in statistical genetics.. From that first breakthrough to today's global partnerships, we're accelerating the journey from genetic discovery to life-saving treatments – bringing precision medicine from the lab to the world.

We decode the language of life to unlock personalised health solutions.

We make the invisible, visible

We make the universal, personal

We make the theoretical, practical

We make the impossible, possible

Accelerating drug discovery

The life sciences sector is under pressure to accelerate drug discovery and develop personalised, preventative treatments more quickly and more effectively. Currently, 95% of drugs entering clinical trials fail, pushing the average total cost of bringing a new drug to market beyond $2.3 billion.

But this can now change. Drugs supported by human genetic evidence are 2.6x more likely to succeed in clinical trials. Life sciences companies need a trusted partner to provide high quality genomic insights, accelerate clinical trials and identify the best clinical pathways with the right patients. With Genomics’ genotype-phenotype comprehensive database, seen as the most powerful in the world, we unlock smarter R&D and more targeted medicine for patients.

Advancing global health

Through Health & Wellness, we are leading the new area of genomic prevention—a paradigm-changing approach to personalised healthcare. Using advanced, reliable risk estimates for common diseases, we deliver targeted screening to prevent disease or catch it early when outcomes remain favorable.

Our population health management services and clinical decision support tools bring genetic insights to healthcare providers worldwide, ensuring personalized risk prediction reaches those who need it most.

Accelerating drug discovery

Through our Life Sciences division, we partner with leading pharmaceutical companies to incorporate deep genetic insights into drug research and development.Backed by one of the world's leading investors in life sciences, the Genomics team operates as a multi-disciplinary group of over 100 scientists, engineers and deployment specialists.

Our expertise in turning world-leading science into powerful applications continues to accelerate healthcare breakthroughs in Oxford, Amsterdam, Cambridge (UK), Cambridge (MA), and Boston (US).
