Genomics has been named Business of the Year in BBC’s The Bottom Line Business Awards, succeeding last year’s winner, Rolls-Royce.
We were nominated by Nicola Hodson, Deputy President of techUK, following our CEO Professor Sir Peter Donnelly receiving techUK’s President’s Award for the Economy earlier this month.
The nomination recognised our foundations in rigorous science as a spin-out from the University of Oxford, as well as the impact of our technology across population healthcare and life sciences. The judging panel praised our combination of science, data, machine learning, AI and genetics, and our role in helping shift healthcare from treatment towards prevention.
It also highlighted the inclusion of Polygenic Risk Scores in the NHS 10 Year Plan and their planned rollout by 2035. In cardiovascular disease alone, PRS could help prevent more than 45,000 heart attacks and strokes over a decade, saving the NHS over £235 million.
